Weight No Longer
Research shines light on the best paths to permanent weight loss
by Susan Huntington

Is Stress Weighing You Down?
You may attribute those love handles to too much food and drink, but have you considered the role that stress plays in packing on the pounds? Research demonstrates why obesity treatment should focus on stress management.

The body reacts to stress by releasing the powerful "fight-or-flight" hormones, cortisol and adrenaline. An elevated level of these hormones works directly against your waistline. Elevated cortisol directs the body to hang on to the fat that it already has stored (and not burn it) and to accumulate more fat stores. Elevated adrenaline creates a short-term energy rush as sugar is released into the bloodstream, but this is followed by ravenous hunger for fat and simple carbohydrates (No wonder we grab for the bag of cookies after a stressful meeting with the boss)? "If you have lots of stressors, you have lots of periods of rebound insulin secretion. The cumulative effect is a push toward obesity," says Robert Sapolsky, professor of neurological and biological sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine in California.

But now, there is some help! Remember when Mom handed you a glass of warm milk and told you it would help you relax? Now she has ten years of research to support her claim. Researchers have isolated the peptide in milk that reduces anxiety and stress. It has been shown to lower cortisol levels and elevated blood pressure while maintaining normal heart rate. This peptide works as well as benzodiazepines, but without the side effects or addictive properties. This milk peptide can be found in a Symbiotics product called Tryp•to•ZEN®. Unlike other natural calming supplements on the market that can take several weeks to provide any benefit, this peptide works in as little as 30 minutes. Imagine how this heart-healthy supplement can trim your waistline.

Dairy… it keeps a body lean
A recent university study, which followed thousands of women just out of high school for a ten-year period, shows that eating three servings of dairy a day maintains lean body weight. The study found that 90% of the women who ate three daily servings of dairy maintained the same percentage of body fat as they had in high school.

Other studies support these findings. Researchers at Creighton University (2002) gathered data from six observational studies and three controlled trials suggesting that an increase in dairy foods could reduce the risk of overweight and obesity, perhaps by as much as 70 percent. Upon completing a 24-week clinical trial, individuals who regularly consumed three to four daily servings of low-fat dairy products lost 70 percent more weight than controls on a non-dairy diet. Also, the highly publicized Yoplait study, comparing yogurt supplementation to a control diet shows similar results. The Yoplait group lost 22 percent more weight, 61 percent more body fat, and 81 percent more abdominal fat than the control group and they maintained twice as much lean muscle mass as the controls.

Although some researchers attribute the success in maintaining a lean body weight to the calcium in dairy products, others speculate that it is more likely due to the growth factors in dairy products, which are even more concentrated in colostrum.

Finally - a sound plan to a better body
The plan – Combine exercise  with New Life Colostrum™
The result: A lean, trim body!

For those seeking to burn fat stores while increasing lean body mass (muscles), clinical research reveals a solution… New Life Colostrum Plus™ (Symbiotics, Sedona, AZ). Researcher Jose Antonio and his colleagues at the University of Delaware reveal that eight weeks of New Life Colostrum supplementation (20g/day) increased lean body mass significantly when combined with exercise training. An increase in lean body mass means a trim and fit body.

Why is it important to gain lean muscle? Your muscles burn 90% of your calories, so you need to keep the muscles to have a good metabolism that continues to burn fat for fuel.

Think how a small investment in an exercise program and New Life Colostrum will yield a huge return throughout your life by keeping you lean while allowing you to eat more. The side effect of taking colostrum to gain a better body: Better overall health and increased immunity!

Wake up America!

Are you one of the many people in this country desperate to lose weight? If so, there is no doubt that you are well-aware of the new diet revolution – high-protein diets. But, do they work? If you ask many people, they will give you an enthusiastic "yes". These individuals actually believe they can somehow trick the body into losing extra fat while eating high-fat foods they love – without exercising! It is no wonder that high-protein diet gurus have such a large following; we all love to hear good news about our bad habits.

The main reason high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets have become so popular today is because they can promote a sizable loss in body weight - but it’s mostly water. These diets result in the body’s loss of carbohydrate stores, which contain large amounts of water. If the diet is low enough in carbohydrates, such as the Atkins diet, the body can go into a state of ketosis.

[Ketosis: The body adapts to prolonged fasting or carbohydrate deprivation by converting fat into compounds that the nervous system can use to forestall death. Ketosis can harm the body by promoting mineral loss and upsetting the acid-base balance of the blood.]

High-protein, low-carbohydrate diets promise that you’ll lose weight fast and never feel hungry. This may prove true initially, but the sad truth is that you are not only potentially causing harm to your body but also losing vital muscle tissue in the process which will set you up to be even fatter than you were before!
