What Practicing Doctors Have To Say About Colostrum

Nikki Marie Welch, MD, MD(H)

nikki_marie_welchSedona doctor Nikki Marie Welch, MD, MD(H), uses colostrum in her practice to treat a variety of conditions, including lowered immune function, chronic infections, auto-immune diseases, colds, flu and allergies. Dr. Welch, who graduated from Duke University and Johns Hopkins University and did post-graduate work at Yale, is Board-certified in Internal Medicine. “I use a lot of cutting-edge nutritional supplements in my practice — it’s part of my commitment to ‘build wellness from within’ that is my basic mission.”

“I prescribe colostrum to about one third of my patients. The anecdotal evidence shows that patients are thriving after taking the supplement — that their conditions usually improve substantially. And if we can help the patient get better without standard drugs, we do it. I think the new cutting-edge nutritional biochemistry is very exciting — and that includes colostrum.”

“The factors found in colostrum work together naturally to enhance the immune system, whereas single isolated components, such as interferon, are far more likely to have unwanted side effects, and are, at this time, extremely experimental in nature,” she continued. “When I discovered colostrum, I confirmed that it had been extensively studied by highly reputable doctors, scientists and organizations. This led me to feel a lot more comfortable about it than a lot of other untested remedies.”

Dr. Welch added “I have learned that colostrum varies in quality depending on the source, and that it is important to source colostrum that has been processed correctly so that it retains its biological potency.”

Carl Hawkins, Chiropractor

“Colostrum falls into a special category of natural remedy because it is so broad-spectrum. Because of this, people sometimes make the mistake of regarding it as a panacea.”

“I’ve found that colostrum helps with problems that have not or cannot be addressed by any other methods. And the beauty of it is that patients can try it without any fear of negative effects. Because it is such a benign natural substance,  there are no problems with possible side effects.”

“I use colostrum for problem patients who have been unable to get results with other doctors and courses of treatment. It has proven very effective in conditions of weakened immunity or auto-immune conditions such as Epstein-Barr. It’s also very helpful in helping clients with toxic conditions.”

“Being board-certified in kinesiology, I use kinesiology testing extensively in my practice. When I test clients for colostrum, I find that it tests positive about 90% of the time, — more often than any other remedy I test.”

“I’ve seen, however, that there is a difference in the quality and effectiveness of  different brands of colostrum. I found that some brands don’t test as well as others, nor do they create as many positive results for patients. I think that’s important for people to realize.”

Horton Tatarian, MD

Horton Tatarian, M.D., graduated from U.C.L.A. School of Medicine. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry from the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. Tatarian no longer practices medicine in the traditional sense. He is now President of Nutriphysiology, a company which supplies nutritional supplements.  As a biochemist with a medical background, he is also able to recommend certain nutritional supplements to his customers.

“In my opinion, based on the nature of colostrum and the feedback I have received from customers, certain brands of colostrum are very effective, natural supports for people who have a weak or ailing immune system. Just as colostrum is nature’s way of transferring immunity to a newborn, it is supportive to anyone needing time to gain immune system balance and strength. Accordingly, I often recommended certain brands to people who report having difficulty with chronic infection of any type, chronic inflammation of any type, or any other evidence of significant immune system weakness or imbalance, such as chronic fatigue, cancer, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, etc.  However, I do not routinely recommend long term use of colostrum for children or young adults whose immune system is still developing. In addition, I also encourage the use of certain other dietary supplements important to tissue healing, according to individual needs, to reduce dependency on colostrum.”

“Customers who test the effectiveness of colostrum by taking it intermittently report clear and significant benefits, a list much too long to mention here.”

“I do not recommend the use of just any brand of colostrum, any more than I would any other dietary supplement. Not all suppliers have equal access to quality colostrum or expertise in colostrum processing. Some are better than others.”

Pauqel Mason, Herbalist

“The most common response I get from my clients is ‘I feel so good when I take it’. I had a woman come in suffering badly from allergies. She was sneezing constantly, her eyes were red and watering and her nose was running. I gave her three capsules of colostrum and within a very short time, all her symptoms had disappeared. She was amazed and so was I.  Since then I’ve used it extensively for allergies. Many of my clients find that after 6-8 months on colostrum they are completely clear of all the allergies they had previously.”

“I’ve also seen excellent results with Fibromyalgia, which is notoriously difficult to treat. Sufferers report reduced pain, better sleep patterns and enhanced energy after taking the supplement.”

“Another ‘incurable’ disease, Multiple Sclerosis, seems to be positively affected by colostrum. One client was prescribed conventional pharmaceutical medications by a doctor. She refused to take them and tried colostrum instead.  When she paid a return visit to her doctor, he was amazed at the improvement in her condition.”

“I take colostrum myself when I am under immune system stress — I find it wards off a cold almost instantly. And I like the fact that it’s a safe, natural supplement without side-effects — that means I can feel quite confident about giving it to children as well.”

“I discovered, however, that it really does matter what brand of colostrum you take. Since I had heard quite a bit about it, I had tried several different brands and none of them worked — until I found the brand I am using now.”
